Guillermo Del Toro Part 1

In this episode half of the SGS team were away in NY while Wayne and Justin stayed behind and caught up on #GuillermoDelToro's back catalogue and watched #Mimic and #PansLabyrinth. We had a change of environment and recorded this as part of a #DelToro movie night in the lead up to his new film #CrimsonPeak. The acoustics were not ideal as we recorded in Darkest-Timeline Justin's TV room on a very hot night. So please accept our apologies for the fan in the background and a minor step down in audio quality. However, we do believe the content makes up for it, especially during Pans Labyrinth which can be found at the 22 minute mark.

#Roscharch journel June 19 2015 Podcast hits feed in the morning, the internet is afraid of me it has seen my true face  The episode is filled with extended rants, opinions and left wing sentimentalities. The hosts, an assortment of intellectuals, geeks movie fans and possible closet homosexuals, must investigate further.  The topic of discussion was the #Watchmen film extended cut,  said a lot of hurtful things especially about the comedian. Still much praise was given but it's irrelevant soon there will be a flame war, millions will listen and send in fiery feedback because there are good films and evil ones and even in the face of dial up speeds the evil films must be punished  I shall not compromise in this.

Flipped (2010)

It feels like a bit of Rob Reiner is in the air over at the SoylentGreen Screen Headquarters, with Michelle picking the movies she decided to start things off with Flipped (2010).

When Bryce moves in next door to Julie, Julie has an instant crush on Bryce… or course Bryce didn’t feel this way.

Bryce comes from a hardworking, white collar all American family, whereas Julie was free spirit also from a hardworking blue collar family. Both have different background, both from different classes, but no matter how much Julie tried, she couldn’t get Bryce’s attention…. Or does she?

The team was in different of the film, but this movie showed gender roles had flipped, the time period was flipped, and the class of families also flipped.

Sit back and put those ear plugs in and enjoy Flipped.

Accepted (2006)

In this episode, presented by AllThingsFilm.net we finally #Accepted that #justinLong is here to stay. This was a film from 2006 that slipped under the radar but became a little known cult favourite. This was directed by #StevePink (same fellow who brought us #HotTubTimeMachine) and co-stars #JonahHill, #BlakeLively (#GossipGirl), #MariaThayer (#TammyLittlenut from #StrangersWithCandy, as well as #LewisBlack, and one of our favourite up and comers #RobinLordTaylor (#ThePenguin from #Gotham).

This is the story of a kid who was rejected from his choice of universities and decided to start up his own college. While this sounds silly on the surface, we examine the real life learning institutes that started similar programs, the achievements of Justin Long, we play a brief game of six degrees of Justin Long, we even briefly discuss the #Bollywood Remake. That's right, this little film that could inspired Bollywood and real life educational institutions.

There is quite a lot more to this film than it has been given credit for. We hope you enjoy it, and we'd love to hear from you @sgspod, you can also find us on Facebook with a brief search.

The students are given a bag with a randomly selected weapon and rations of food and water, before being sent off to kill each other until one survives--or they all die.

The movie focuses on how they cope. Some play the game like the psychotic #Kiriyama or the sexual #Mitsuko, others like the heroes of the movie, #Shuya, #Noriko, and #Kawada try to find a way out, without violence. As the numbers lower, is there any way for Shuya, and his classmates to survive?

Star Wars: A New Hope (1977)

For our 50th recording, and first anniversary, we bring Michelle's dad, Bryan back for a bumper episode to discuss #StarWars: #EpisodeIV #ANewHope, starring #MarkHamill, #HarrisonFord, #CarrieFisher, #AnthonyDaniels, #PeterMayhew and #JamesEarlJones. Our primary focus was to look at the impact this film had on the #1970s. Through this discussion we look at the initial reception of Star Wars, the changes made to the film over the last 38 years and how it felt to see Star Wars for the very first time back in #1977.

We also get behind the scenes and look at the origins of the film, what #GeorgeLucas expected of the film, the deals he had to make and his bet with #StevenSpielberg.

The audio embedded is from the original teaser trailer released in 1976. We used this instead of the traditional #JohnWilliams score to reflect on what it would have been like to have seen Star Wars in its original run.

Don Bluth's Titan A.E.

In this episode we discuss the final #DonBluth film, #TitanAE, cowritten by #JossWhedon, and starring the vocal talents of #MattDamon, #DrewBarrymore, #BillPullman, #NathanLane, #RosieODonnell and one of our favourites #JohnLeguizamo.

This is a hard to find film that is out of print in Australia, but has become a cult favourite amongst #Firefly and #Serenity fans for its connections to #JossWhedon and also to animation fans for transcending Cell to CGI animation and utilising #2D and #3Danimation from Industrial Light and Magic. While we had mixed responses to the film, as two of our podcasters loved it, and two were indifferent, but the level of work did not go under appreciated.

The topics we cover include the changeover from 2D to 3D, the end of Don Bluth's career, the rise of Joss Whedon, how much credit does Joss Whedon really deserve, and last but not least, we examine the merits of the film; from story to structure, to voicework, and whether or not the film condones genocide.
