Galaxy Quest (1999)

In this episode Michelle’s Dad, Bryan joins us, as we follow up our #HitchikersGuideToTheGalaxy episode with a revisit to the late 90s #StarTrek satire #GalaxyQuest (1999), starring #TimAllen, #SigourneyWeaver, #AlanRickman, #SamRockwell and #TonyShalhoub.

Throughout this episode we discuss the #SciFi tropes, the opinions of #StarTrekAlumni such as #PatrickStewart, #GeorgeTakei and #WilWheaton, as well as #JJAbrams belief that this is the greatest Star Trek film he’s ever seen, and whether or not the film holds up 16 years later.

We also have a new affiliate in AllThingsFilm.co.uk and finally draw a winner for our #HungerGames prizepack.

John Wick

In this episode we discuss the latest #KeanuReeves film, #JohnWick and why this might well be the greatest American action film this century. Through this discussion we examine the problems with modern action films such as #Taken and the current trend of #LiamNeeson in cheap action schlock and why this makes John Wick feel so refreshing. We also discuss why the death of the dog works so well as a catalyst for the plot.

Jupiter Ascending

In this episode we explore the latest film from The #Wachowski's. While we all had differing ideals on what this film wanted to be, one thing we all agreed on was that the characters played by #MilaKunis and #ChanningTatum were terribly written but we loved #Eddie Redmayne's #Marlon Brando impersonation. Space Princess Justin introduced us to the homages that the film paid, but all Wayne could see were comparisons to the #SuperMarioBros. Movie from 1993.
