Lord of the Flies (1963)

In this episode the Soylent GreenScreen team, with the aid of Sean Fallon from #AudiencesEverywhere.net, venture into uncharted territories with the 1963 adaptation of #WilliamGolding's #LordOfTheFlies.

Through this discussion, they discuss how much they hated #Piggy, the themes of inhumanity and evil, and the cultural impact of the film. They also compare it to modernist variations such as #ABC's #Lost and that one time #TheSimpsons did it, as well as trying to find a #SciFi equivalent to determine how well the film holds up, and if it is worth watching.

Battle Royale is the story of forty-two ninth-grade students from a Japanese high school forced by legislation to compete in a Battle Royale. The students are given a bag with a randomly selected weapon and rations of food and water, before being sent off to kill each other until one survives--or they all die.

The movie focuses on how they cope. Some play the game like the psychotic #Kiriyama or the sexual #Mitsuko, others like the heroes of the movie, #Shuya, #Noriko, and #Kawada try to find a way out, without violence. As the numbers lower, is there any way for Shuya, and his classmates to survive?
